Join us on one of the most epic rides in Oregon as we ride a portion of the Fremont National Recreation Trail (part of the Oregon Timber Trail). This year we will descend from Moss Pass all the way down to the Chewaucan for one of the most spectacular views in Eastern Oregon. While the mountain biking is awesome up here, the ride is more about where you are than what you are doing.
For those of you that followed our trip from last year, this is going the be the last 20 miles of that route.
We will be camping Saturday night, June 15th, at or somewhere near the Chewaucan Crossing Campgrounds (Marsters or Jones or dispersed depending on availability). First thing in the morning we will be loading up with lunch and heading out to setup our shuttle to Moss Pass. Feel free to join us the night before or plan to show up at the campground no later than 8 am (it’s a 3 hour drive from Klamath so be prepared).
Expect to spend pretty much the whole day for this adventure. While the ride is about 20 miles with only about 2100’ of climbing (and about 3500’ of descending), there will be many stops for views, regrouping and social time. While this is not a hammer fest ride, it is not an easy ride either: technical terrain, wayfinding and often extreme weather are the primary challenges out here.
What to Bring:
A full Hydration Pack (recommend 100 oz. and a frame mounted bottle).
Food for 6 or more hours. We will have food at the campground to load up on before we shuttle out.
Recommend a mountain bike in the “Trail” category (120mm travel or more), with full suspension preferred.
A GPS loaded with the appropriate tracks. It is VERY easy to get lost out here, we will not bring you to the top if you don’t have this. Please do not show up intending on following others. We won’t try to break the group up, but we want to account for somebody splitting off on accident.
A phone for emergencies.
Clothing layers enough to account for extreme weather as well as your normal Helmet, shoes and other riding gear.
A sense of adventure.
We will provide shuttles, breakfast and lunch but ask if you plan to utilize these may require a nominal fee. Please RSVP in person only at the shop. We have demo bikes and GPS units available.
